Last week I wrote about Lowry’s Crab Shack, our favorite place for seafood and fried chicken in LoCo. Today, let me tell you about our favorite restaurant, The Cajun Experience in downtown Leesburg.
Heather and I visited New Orleans in the spring of 2005 and fell in love, the food, the music, the people, and Cafe Du Monde’s chicory coffee and beignets. A few years later, we were walking down Loudoun Street and stumbled upon The Cajun Experience. It took five tries (they had lunch and dinner hours and we always seemed to just miss), but we finally managed get in and were not disappointed.
Opened by Melissa and Bryan Crosswhite in 2009, there have been some ups and downs. Expansions in Washington DC and Purcellville didn’t work out, but the original location is going strong. Be sure to follow them on facebook for news and specials, just be warned they constantly post pictures of tantalizing dishes.
The menu features boudin balls, po’boys, gumbo (seafood, chicken, and sausage), and of course Cafe Du Monde beignets for dessert (see the full menu here). The back patio is open when the weather permits, and live music happens almost every weekend. Daily lunch specials are offered for $5, and an as yet experienced bottomless mimosa for $20 on Sunday is very tempting. When you stop by, make sure to come hungry and tell them we sent you!
