Do you recognize the building? This is the spot of summertime goodness that is Gruto’s Ice Cream in Purcellville…one of my favorite places to be when the weather is hot! My sadness at Gruto’s closing for the winter was overcome with happiness today when I learned that the Cajun Experience was filling the space until spring! If you aren’t familiar with the Cajun Experience, it’s Leesburg location on Loudoun Street serves fantastic cajun fare and beignets. They recently opened their outdoor patio, are serving beer, and are hosting live music on the weekends. (I heard there will be a band there tomorrow night!)
Being a Purcellville resident, I was tickled when I heard they are open for carryout here now, with a limited menu…no fried foods yet, but they have both the seafood and the chicken/sausage gumbo, plus the jambalaya, crawfish etoufee, shrimp maque choux, red beans and sausage, muffalatta, and crawfish mac & cheese. Two of their popular PoBoys appear on the menu here; the hot pot roast and the andouille sausage. There’s a selection of starters, desserts, and a kids menu, too. Carryout orders can be phoned in to 540-338-2599.
They are opening just in time for the annual Tag Sale this weekend, and I heard they will have beignets cooking this weekend as the shoppers wander through town.
Have I mentioned that I’m excited to have them in Purcellville? =)
