Dominion Valley Country Club

Dominion Valley Country Club is a Toll Brothers community just off of Route 15 in Haymarket. We had the opportunity to play it for the first time in a golf tournament last week and came away impressed.

Inside the gates it felt as though we had traveled to the Sand Hills area of North Carolina (think Pinehurst). Tall pines lined the fairways and I was surprised by the rolling terrain. An Arnold Palmer signature design, the fairways and greens were expansive. If you do happen to miss your target you can count on at least a one shot penalty. Most holes offer the option of running the ball onto the green and with 5 sets of tees ranging from 5211 to 7044 yards golfers of all levels can enjoy a round here. The signature hole is #9, a 165 yard par 3 over water. We played with a back left pin and it was a very intimidating tee shot (but we did make par).

Dominion Valley is a private club which doesn’t exude the stuffiness we’ve seen elsewhere. The clubhouse is classic but comfortable with banquet facilities, two locker rooms, and a grill/tavern on the lower level which looks out onto the 9th hole. Similar to many courses in the northeast the golf shop is located in a separate building just next door. The practice facility included a range, huge putting green, and a chipping green with two bunkers.

One of the things I liked best was homes were set back from the course. A great deal of care was given to make sure the community was loosely wrapped around the course. The patio homes start in the $350,000’s and single family homes range from $450,000 to over $1,000,000. Overall we can’t wait to get back.
