The Scoop:

Aldie, Virginia is an historic town tucked into a gap between Catoctin Mountain and Bull Run Mountain in the southeastern corner of Loudoun County.  The area is best known for itsโ€™ original grist mill, the only one in Virginia with twin overshot waterwheels. The village grewe around the mill after it was built in 1785. The post office followed in 1811, and the first school was established in 1858. Like many towns in Loudoun County, Aldie is steeped in history and was the site of numerous civil war skirmishes, including a battle in June of 1863 that held the advancing Union Army at bay.

New residential communities started popping up along the edges of town in recent years, bringing new life to the historic community while making it one of the fastest growing suburbs in the DC region. The population is now currently estimated at around 35,000 residents, a massive increase over the 2010 census total of 11,315. Not surprisingly, like most new communities in Loudoun, Aldie’s neighborhoods are large and stocked with amenities. Lenah Run, Lenah Mill, Willowsford, Kirkpatrick Farms, Virginia Manor, WestRidge, and Stone Ridge account for the majority of residences in the town.
