The Scoop:
The town of Leesburg is not only the seat of government for Loudoun County, but also its heart. (That’s the courthouse pictured.) With the traditional downtown historic district, it retains the small town feel, but as home to nearly 54,000 residents, Leesburg is a fully functioning modern city. Residents enjoy the annual holiday, Halloween, and Fourth of July parades. The first Friday of every month, the downtown shops stay open late, local musicians perform on the courthouse lawn, and folks wander through enjoying it all. Leesburg has seen its share of growth and change as part of one of the fastest growing counties in the country; many new communities and businesses have sprouted up since the early 2000’s. (The population in the county jumped 50% between 2000 and 2010.)
There are 11 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 4 high schools in Leesburg now. And with the boom of home construction and population growth, there are a wide variety of neighborhoods and styles of living available to residents. Recently, the Crescent District was formed, offering more choices closer to the vibrant downtown. With some redevelopment plans that are currently on the table, there may be even more downtown living options on the way.
