The Scoop:
The Estates at Shenstone Farms is a Leesburg neighborhood set in the hills as you head west towards Purcellville. The community was built by Toll Brothers between 2001 and 2007, and sits on the opposite side of Route 7 from Beacon Hill. There are two sections; the front section, including the majority of the 128 homes, is accessible from Route 7. The second section is accessed from Dry Mill Road. The community is adjacent to a portion of the Washington and Old Dominion Trail, and is also near the Loudoun County Fairgrounds. It’s not too far from where Route 7 intersects with Route 9, and is close to the slightly newer Shenstone Reserve community, which was also built by Toll Brothers.
The original property was indeed Shenstone Farm, with a stone farmhouse dating back to the mid-1700s. That predates both Loudoun County and Leesburg! The homes sit on 3 to 9 acre lots, which are mostly open and allow for plenty of sunrise, sunset, and scenic countryside views. As with most of the Toll Brothers estate home communities, the houses were built for entertaining with expansive kitchens, formal rooms, numerous bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, and ample finished square footage. There are no community amenities, but the lots can easily accommodate pools and other outdoor living spaces.
The one drawback to the community is the entrance for the homes on the Route 7 side. Coming from Leesburg, heading west, you have to either turn left across the divided highway (which can be tricky at certain parts of the day.) Otherwise, you can go past the community and turn around at Route 9 for the easier right-hand turn into the neighborhood. The ease of commuting balances this, however, as the entrance to the Dulles Greenway is only 4 miles away.
What We Like:
The softly rolling terrain, combined with the large lot sizes, leads to beautiful views out of almost any window. You could mistake it for a golf community from all of the green space! The simple access to the W&OD Trail is a huge benefit. Also, the neighborhood is only a few miles from downtown Leesburg, and sits smack in the center of the Loudoun Wine Trail.
You know we love the dowtown offerings- Leesburg hosts plenty of events and parades throughout the year, including the flower and garden festival, fireworks shows, and more. There are many locally-owned restaurants to explore- three of our favorites are Schmidt’s Barbecue, BKD Bagels, and Sidebar.
