The Scoop:
Chantilly is located in the southwest corner of Loudoun County and is the crossroads of Routes 50 & 28. Originally named for an 18th century plantation, the town is now home to over 14,000 homes and 40,000 residents. Loudoun’s share of Chantilly is mostly made up of several large planned communities. The largest and most well known is South Riding, a Toll Brothers-built community of patio, single family, and town homes. Featuring an 18 hole championship golf course, four clubhouses with swimming pools, tot lots, two beautiful neighborhood parks, and miles of scenic trails, it has become a desirable location for folks wanting easy access to Washington DC. Other neighborhoods that have been recently developed include Stone Ridge, Avonlea, East Gate, and Cedar Hunt.
Chantilly is home to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, a companion to the National Air and Space Museum. Consisting of two huge hangers displaying thousands of aviation and space crafts, many LoCo elementary students get to enjoy a field trip here. The town is also home to the National Reconnaissance Organization (NRO) which designs, builds, and operates the spy satellites of the US government.
Chantilly area residents who have to travel often for work appreciate the close proximity to Dulles Airport, which also provides Metro line commuting into the DC corridor.
