The Scoop:

The Broadlands neighborhood is a master planned community in Ashburn, halfway between the Dulles International Airport and Leesburg. Designed and developed by Van Metre Companies, the community spans more than 1500 acres and is home to 1916 single family homes, 1225 townhomes, and 742 condos. There are two apartment communities available for rent within the neighborhood: The Jefferson Arbors at Broadlands and the Van Metre Broadlands Apartments. The homeowners association was incorporated in 1995 as the first homes were finishing construction and became homeowner controlled in 2009. The final homes in the community were completed in 2014. With a variety of home types and sizes, no matter what kind of home you are looking for, Broadlands likely has something that would be a fit for you.

Community amenities are plentiful. The fitness center is open from 5 am to 11 pm daily, and has 5 treadmills, 4 elliptical machines, 2 stationary bikes, 2 multi-functional weight trainers, 5 strength machines and a row machine. There are 3 community pools open in the summer; the Broadlands Pirahnas swim teams participate in Old Dominion Swim League and Colonial Swim League. You can find 9 tennis courts in 4 locations throughout the community, and Prime Time Tennis Academy provides professional instruction. There are plenty of walking and biking trails and ponds throughout the neighborhood. Residents are also able to rent out the community center, with it’s great room and fireplace and capacity for 60-100 guests.  You can find a map of the community here.

What We Like:

Broadlands was developed with the outdoors in mind, and it shows in the community spirit as well as the way the homes are sited on the land. The whole neighborhood flows around Stream Valley Park, which is 150 acres of trails, wetlands, and wildlife preserves. The pride of the community is the Broadlands Nature Center , a 5,000 square foot complex with animals, programs, and events that include a children’s nature program. Broadlands was even named a Certified Wildlife Habitat Community by the National Wildlife Federation, one of only 25 across the nation.

The community spirit is vibrant, with a calendar full of activities for all age groups. The summer outdoor movie program, Flicks in the Sticks, brings everyone out on weekend evenings with lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic dinners. The Broadlands Live outdoor concerts have been going on for 16 years in the summer and feature local bands. The neighborhood also supports numerous outreach programs; recent events have included a sneaker drive, a clothing donation effort, and a fundraiser for Mobile Hope.
