The Scoop:
Established in 1787 and aptly named for itsโ location halfway between Alexandria and Winchester, Middleburg is now the โHorse and Hunt Capitalโ of the nation. From the historic downtown district full of quaint shops, boutiques, and restaurants, (featuring our favorite Salon Aubrey) to the beautiful, sprawling equestrian estates, this town has a distinctive personality and ambiance. The Middleburg Historic District, comprising much of the downtown, is on the National Register of Historic Places, with 160 different buildings on the register. During the month of December, the town is transformed into a festive wonderland for the holidays, and the annual Christmas in Middleburg festival is well known for its mile long Middleburg Hunt Review parade.
If wineries make you happy, there are more than 20 within 30 minutes of Middleburg. And the town is also home to the National Sporting Library and Museum, which pays tribute to the history of โcountry pursuitsโ including โangling, horsemanship, shooting, steeplechasing, fox hunting, flat racing, polo, coaching, and wildlife.โ
