Pam & John’s New Construction Story: Part 10

Brambleton Home 10.1

Heather and I have had the good fortune to build two homes from scratch. Not everyone has had that opportunity, so over the next several months I am detailing the process my clients, John and Pam, are going through during the construction of their new Miller & Smith home. This is Part 10 of that story, you can catch up by reading Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, and Part 9.

Throughout the process, John has been able to access his new home to get a close look at the progress. Until the last three weeks that is, as Miller & Smith has a policy of locking the future owners out down the stretch. So when we had our pre-final walk through this week, it was sort of like the big reveal of an HGTV show.

The skies were a little gloomy but spirits were high as we met with Larry, the construction superintendent, to go over each detail of the house. The purpose of this next to last meeting is to make sure all of the systems are working, the correct finishes were applied, and to identify any repairs that need to be made. You’ll see little pieces of blue tape in some of the pictures, they mark small imperfections to be cleaned up before turning over the keys. John hardly had a chance to point things out because Larry was so attentive (he used an entire role of tape). I have to say again, Miller & Smith is the most thorough builder we have had the pleasure of working with.

We’ve got one more week before Pam & John take ownership of their new home. It’s been a joy to watch this one come to life, I’m gonna miss stopping by each week to see how things are going.

Cheers,
Mike
