Team Joe Cracks $200,000

Team Joe Welcome

In 2007, Denny Petrella of Cheers Sports came to us at Westpark Golf Club with an idea to start a golf tournament for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Inova Fairfax Hospital. His son Joe was born twelve weeks early and would not have survived if not for the care of the doctors, nurses, and specialists in the NICU. Wanting to give something back, he created the Team Joe Golf Tournament.

That’s Denny in the picture above, welcoming players to Loudoun Golf & Country Club for the 7th edition of Team Joe.  It’s been sold out every year and has raised an incredible $200,000 to date. It’s a little like a big birthday party for Joe, seeing how much he has grown each year. This year he putted with every group on the 9th green, and stole the mic from Denny to announce the winners as they were doing the raffle.

I’m proud to have played host to the first three events, and yesterday was my first chance to experience it as a participant. Our team ended up finishing third, not bad for my 8th round of golf this year. Looking forward to next year and continuing the incredible run of this event.

Cheers,
Mike
