I stopped by to check on the progress of the extension of Battlefield Parkway from Kincaid Boulevard to Route 7. It’s easy to see how quickly this project has progressed! The portion of Battlefield Parkway between Sycolin Road and the Dulles Greenway opened in September, so this will be the next portion to open. The Town of Leesburg says that construction is on schedule and it will be open for traffic this fall, 2009. The portion left to be completed on the other side of town, between Edwards Ferry Road and Fort Evans Road, is under construction too, with no estimated completion date yet. If you peek at that project from the Edwards Ferry Road side, they are looking at taking out a ton of trees and the topography is hilly. Once I hear of a finish date for that I’ll post it.
I’m optimistic that once Battlefield Parkway is finished, traffic will flow more smoothly at rush hour in and around Leesburg, and we won’t be plagued with backups on the north side of town at the Route 15 North/ Edwards Ferry Road intersection and near the outlet mall. The last part of the parkway slated to be built is the portion connecting South King Street (Route 15 South) with Evergreen Mill Road: “Design and right of way acquisition are currently underway. Construction will be scheduled when complete funding is in place,” according to the Town of Leesburg’s website.
Cheers,
Heather

Yes, excited about this. It will help a lot.
However, I am worried about the increased traffic on Battlefield as commuters to MD cut through by Ball Bluff.
