LoCo News Wrap-up for January 18th

This week’s news, notes, and nuggets for Loudoun:

  • iPads for teachers and students: The School board has a big meeting coming up next Thursday. The FY2014 budget is up for vote, including a  provision for mobile devices for teachers and possibly closing Lincoln Elementary. Also, a controversial amendment allowing parents to freely enroll their children in any school not at capacity is scheduled for vote.
  • Steve Forbes @ Patrick Henry College: Steve Forbes was at Patrick Henry College this past Monday as part of the school’s Newsmaker series. In part he talked about his unsuccessful runs at president in 1996  and 2000.
  • National writing contest winner:  Adithi Ramakrishnan of Ashburn won the Mrs. P national writing contest for the 9-13 year old group age bracket. She will receive a bound copy of her story and a video will be feature on the Mrs. P website. In addition, her school will be awarded $300 to purchase books for their library. Way to go!
  • Briar Woods football honored: After winner their 3rd consecutive State Championship in football, Briar Woods is being honored by MaxPreps as one of the top 50 in the country. The ceremony will be during halftime of the Jan. 23rd basketball game vs. Potomac Falls.

No snow for us yesterday and it’s gonna be great weather tomorrow so get out and enjoy it!
